Vitamin C

Vitamin C: Why is it important?

We can not produce or store vitamin C, so people need to consume food that contains vitamin C every day. We need it for various important functions in the body:

Just to name a few..

– It is important for skin, bones, tendons, ligaments, cartilage, as it helps to produce collagen. Collagen is a main component of connective tissue, but it depletes as we age

– Vitamin C acts as an antioxidant and helps to fight infections, boosts our immune system and lowers the risk of developing various conditions

– Helps to absorb iron for people with iron-deficiency/ anaemia

– Helps to widen the blood vessels and can benefit cardiovascular health

– Reduces oxidative stress and enhances wound healing

Best sources of vitamin C

– Lemons and oranges (fresh orange juice)

– Red and green peppers

– Strawberries and blackcurrants

– Broccoli and Brussels Sprouts

– Spinach and green leafy vegetables

– Tomatoes

– Potatoes

– Kiwis
