Is Coffee Good for Us!

Is coffee really good for us?

Some interesting facts about coffee based on science:

– Caffeine has the ability to fight fatigue and to increase energy levels, as it increases certain neurotransmitters in your brain that regulate energy levels.

– Coffee is high in antioxidants, which reduces inflammation and may have a positive effect on insulin sensitivity and metabolism, and thus decreasing the risk of Type 2 Diabetes over the long term.

– Some researchers suggest that moderate caffeine consumption supports brain health and increases circulation, which can help with cognitive decline.

– People who consume caffeine are more likely to exercise.

– Caffeine can alter body fat and thus, help with weight management and weight loss.

– Studies found that moderate coffee consumption (2 cups a day) helps to protect the liver from chronic liver disease, liver stiffness and even liver cancer.

– Some research suggests that caffeine may decrease the risk of strokes and heart disease.

BUT… There are also some side effects!

Some individuals are more sensitive than others and caffeine consumption can lead to side effects such as shakiness, dehydration, headaches, upset stomach, fast heart rate and even anxiety. Also, although most of the caffeine from a cup of coffee is normally metabolised within ca. 6 hours, but around 50 % of it stays and circulates in your blood stream for another 6 hours. This means that caffeine consumption has an impact on us for ca. 12 hours. Individuals who suffer from insomnia and who struggle to fall asleep should not have a coffee after 10-11 am.

But for most people consuming 400 mg caffeine a day is not harmful.

If you suffer from insomnia, have a sensitive stomach or if you feel extremely stressed and anxious, it is advised to reduce caffeine consumption as much as possible.
